About Brian
Award winning Raleigh photographer Brian Mullins may be the hardest working photographer in the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill area. During the week he is often shooting commercial work and, on the weekends, you will find him shooting weddings around the Triangle and at destinations across the continent. When not shooting, he is teaching photography classes, mentoring new photographers, and consulting for organizations like WRAL News and Alien Skin Software.Brian has received industry awards for both the quality of his photos and the overall level of service he provides for his clients. In 2012
the Triangle Chapter of the National Association of Catering Executives (NACE) named Brian Photographer of the Year based upon the creativity
and beauty of his wedding day photographs. And since 2009 he has been recognized by WeddingWire as being among the top five percent of wedding photographers nationwide based upon his ability to provide his clients with an enjoyable experience as well as beautiful wedding day images. What sets Brian apart from other photographers is his technical proficiency with photographic equipment. His ability to make light do what he wants it to do comes from his years of training in cinematography and several years of working with concert venue lighting.Brian began his career as a professional photographer in 2005 at Cary Magazine, quickly rising from assignment photographer to Chief Photographer. Although he has been successful in all aspects of photography, he particularly enjoys the challenges of wedding photography. The pressure of having only one chance to capture the moment really gets his creative juices flowing.Brian thrives on challenge—for example, he is thrilled when he walks into a venue with terrible lighting conditions because he knows he will be able to produce one-of-a-kind, visually stunning images. The combination of his innate talent, unique background, and the
experience that comes from photographing hundreds of weddings allows him to offer all of his wedding clients a portfolio of once in a lifetime
images that do justice to their special day.
His brides also appreciate that he is able to use his talent and skill to make their wedding photos look like the wedding of their dreams—even when their wedding day arrives and they find that the florist or caterer did not create the look they were hoping for.In response to repeated requests from clients and other photographers for tips and tutoring, Brian created a Photographers Boot Camp class in 2011. The course covers camera mechanics and operations, or how to have a conversation with your camera, as well as everything about light that a photographer should be aware of. Brian offers this six-hour course at his Apex studio regularly throughout the year.
He also co-founded the Triangle chapter of the Wedding Photographic Society (WPS) in 2008. The WPS mentors new photographers, provides continuing education opportunities for members, and affords local wedding photographers the opportunity to network and support each other. Brian keeps his own skills sharp by regularly attending internationally recognized continuing education classes where he is able to learn from the best and brightest photographers in the industry.
Brian lives in the Raleigh, NC area with his two amazing kids, Holland and Hudson.
